- Riverside Parkway
The Riverside Parkway is a 7 mile, 5 lane expressway in the lower central business
district of Grand Junction. Paralleling the Colorado River, it connects several
of the major highways in the city, and has bike lanes in both directions. The parkway
boasts five new pedestrian bridges, four traffic bridges, a new lane on the U.S.
50 bridge across the Colorado River and an extension to a pre-existing bridge at
25 Road to carry traffic over the railroad tracks. Safety has been greatly enhanced,
especially with the elimination of two dangerous at-grade railroad crossings. In
all, the project included 9,000 CY of concrete (for the bridges), 6,000 CY
of poured concrete (mostly cast-in-place retaining walls), 255,000 lbs of structural
steel and more than 100,000 tons of asphalt. GROUND provided quality control materials
testing services during the construction.

- Trinidad Viaduct
GROUND provided geotechnical exploration, sampling and foundation design for the
large I-25 at Trinidad Viaduct project. The 37 million dollar project includes a
mile of elevated viaduct, extensive walls, ramps, embankments, drainage enhancements
and innovative features such as self-consolidating concrete and LED bridge lighting.
Ground assisted in and analyzed full scale load testing to optimize foundations
and has provided pile-driving analysis on foundation elements. GROUND has provided
materials quality control inspection and testing services on this project since
2007 with project completion estimated for 2011.

- Millennium Bridge
GROUND Engineering Consultants provided geotechnical engineering, materials testing,
and weld inspection services for the Millennium Bridge Project located at the 16th
Street Mall Extension in the City of Denver, Colorado. The pedestrian bridge is
a cable-stay steel structure approximately 230 feet long and up to 110 feet wide
spanning over consolidated main line railroad tracks connecting the 16th Street
Mall and the Commons Park near the Platte River. Due to the complication and magnitude
of the design loads, GROUND designed and conducted conventional caisson static load
tests for both compressive and tensile loads prior to the construction of the bridge
to verify the foundation design parameters.

|
- Central City South Access Road
GROUND Engineering provided geotechnical design including slope stability analysis,
rock fall analysis, pavement design, quality control construction observation /
materials testing, and independent quality assurance testing services for the approximate
8.4 mile virgin 4-lane roadway. The Central City South Access Road connects I-70
at the Hidden Valley Interchange to Central City, CO requiring 200-foot plus cuts
and fills, 5 million cubic yards of material moved, and included two bridge structures.
|
|
- Guanella Pass Reconstruction
GROUND provided Quality Control Supervision as well as process control testing for
the reconstruction of 21.722 km of asphalt roadway for Guanella Pass plus four options
totaling an additional 1.43 km of asphalt roadway. The project was completed during
a three-year construction schedule and included grading, drainage, various retaining
wall systems and asphalt surfacing. GROUND Engineering Consultants provided the
Quality Control Supervision services for multi-shift work on a full-time basis in
accordance with Federal Highway Administration specifications.

- I-225 at Parker Interchange
GROUND Engineering performed the construction management, inspection services and
materials testing for the I-225 and Parker Road Interchange in Parker, CO. As the
fourth largest project in CDOT history, 13 structures were constructed, including
the large fly-over and the RTD Park-n-Ride. GROUND performed inspection for drilled
piers, reinforcing, post-tensioning, structural steel girder erection, high strength
bolt tensioning, and bearing device placement, nuclear moisture/density testing,
concrete testing, retaining walls, and abutments during construction of the bridge
structures, driving surfaces, and for the RTD Park-n-Ride at this project.
